The Vegas Golden Knights acquired veteran defenseman Rasmus Andersson from the division rival Calgary Flames on Sunday.
Vegas will send defenseman Zach Whitecloud, defenseman prospect Abram Wiebe, a 2027 first-round draft pick and a 2028 second-rounder to Calgary in the trade.
The first-rounder is top-10 protected and the 2028 second-rounder will become a first if Vegas wins the 2026 Stanley Cup, according to media reports. Calgary also retains 50% of Andersson's remaining $4.55 million salary.
Andersson is only signed through the end of this season. The Golden Knights could pursue a contract extension before Andersson hits unrestricted free agency this summer.
Andersson, 29, has played all 584 games of his NHL career with Calgary since debuting in 2016-17. An offensive defenseman, he has totaled 57 goals and 204 assists in that time, including 10 goals and 20 assists through 48 games this year.
But the Flames sit near the bottom of the Western Conference standings and shuttled Andersson to the Golden Knights, who lead the Pacific Division as they make another push toward the playoffs.
Whitecloud, 29, played all 368 games of his NHL career with Vegas, including one appearance in the team's inaugural 2017-18 season. He has totaled 23 goals and 55 assists in his career, including two goals and five assists in 47 games this year.
Wiebe, 22, was a seventh-round draft pick by Vegas in 2022 and currently plays at the University of North Dakota.
