The Ottawa Senators made a big splash just ahead of the NHL trade deadline on Friday, acquiring forward Dylan Cozens in a deal with the Buffalo Sabres.
The Senators, who haven't qualified for the playoffs since 2017, also picked up defenseman Dennis Gilbert and a second-round pick of the 2026 NHL Draft for forward Josh Norris and defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker.
Cozens, 24, is competing on the second season of a seven-year, $49.7 million contract. He has 31 points (11 goals, 20 assists) in 61 games this campaign, two seasons removed from recording career-high totals in goals (31), assists (37) and points (68).
Cozens has totaled 197 points (77 goals, 120 assists) in 341 career games since being selected seventh overall by the Sabres in the 2019 NHL Draft.
Gilbert, 28, has five assists in 25 games this season.
Norris, 25, has 33 points (20 goals, 13 points) in 53 games this season while playing on the third year of an eight-year, $63.6 million deal.
He has 156 points (90 goals, 66 assists) in 236 career games since being selected 19th overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2017. He was sent to the Senators in the Erik Karlsson blockbuster deal on Sept. 13, 2018.
Bernard-Docker, 24, has been sidelined since Jan. 6 after sustaining an ankle injury in practice. He has four points (one goals, three assists) in 25 games this season.
