The Montreal Impact traded veteran goalkeeper Evan Bush to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Monday in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.
An original member of the franchise, the 34-year-old Bush made 176 starts between the sticks for Montreal from 2012 through 2019. He posted a 64-78-34 record with 40 shutouts and 562 saves.
He has not played in any games in 2020, with Clement Diop making all 14 starts for the Impact (5-8-1, 16 points).
"We made this trade because we are happy with the work from our three goalkeepers, Clement Diop, James Pantemis and Jonathan Sirois," said Montreal sporting director Olivier Renard. "We want to thank Evan for the ten seasons he played in Montreal and for his great professionalism."
The Whitecaps (5-9-0, 15 points) acquired Bush to add depth at a position depleted by injuries to Maxime Crepeau (broken thumb) and Thomas Hasal (left tibia stress fracture).
"Due to the uncertainty around our goalkeeper position, this is a move we needed to make," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director and chief executive officer, in a team release. "We explored a number of possibilities and Evan Bush is an experienced professional who will provide us another strong option in net along with Bryan Meredith."
