Soaring sales help Microsoft bottom line

Toronto Telegraph Friday 22nd July, 2011

US software giant Microsoft has had a big win with sales of the Xbox.

Annual revenues have hit a record of $69.94 billion thanks to the Xbox 360 videogame console raising profits.

Net income for the world's biggest software maker has jumped 23%, beating all forecasts.

Sales were boosted mainly by sales of Office, Xbox and the server software which runs Microsoft's cloud computing.

Microsoft is expected to enter the tablet market next year with the launch of its next operating system, code-named Windows 8, which is once again expected to boost profits for the technology company.
