Microsoft beats analyst expectations, stock up after hours

Software maker Microsoft Corp. on Thursday reported its third quarter earnings, driving its stock up nearly 3 percent after hours. The company's (NASDAQ:MSFT) stock closed at $31.01. The company reported net income and diluted earnings per share for the quarter of $5.11 billion and 60 cents per share, compared to $5.23 billion and 60 cents per share, respectively, in the same period the prior year.
