British energy boss says prices will be forced up

Toronto Telegraph Sunday 4th March, 2012

Phil Bentley, the managing director of British Gas, has warned people in the UK they could face a huge increase in the money they pay for energy.

He said energy bills including gas and electricity, would rise following government green taxes and extending the cost of the National Grid.

Mr Bentley told the BBC that for greater improvements to the national grid, Britain should invest between 80 billion pounds and 100 billion pounds.

He said without improvements to the grid and other power infrastructure millions of householders would face higher bills.

In estimating the cost of green energy taxes, he said they would add about 140 pounds to the average household bill over the next eight years.

British Gas increased its prices by 17 per cent last year.
